A watchman
“As for you, son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel. When you hear a word from My mouth, give them a warning from Me.”
“Son of man, I have made you a watchman over the house of Israel. When you hear a word from My mouth, give them a warning from Me.”
Continuing from the last quiet time thought from Romans 14:12-13 “An account of himself to God”
While we have to give an account of ourselves to God we are also to be watchmen for those whom God gives us.
So what is the watchman’s job? He was to stand above or at the gate watching the horizon for signs of movement and danger. He would then report to a messenger who would send the message to the authorities who needed to hear it. But if he failed to report the whole town would die on his watch because they were not ready!
So while I do not have a city to watch over I believe I am also appointed a watchman just as Ezekiel was. I try my best to be listening to God so that I can warn others of the coming judgment against them. A person who has a watchman’s call will also be called and operate like a prophet. A prophet operates in two modes. The first is foretelling. Where God will give a direct word for the people. The second is forth-telling. Where he would see the actions and based on the Word of God he will know the outcome of their actions.
The foretelling watchman prophet will know who is approaching before their banner is on display. A forth-telling watchman prophet reacts to the banner when they see it.
I have been listening through 1 and 2 Kings this week. In 2 Kings Elisha operates in both the foretelling and fourth-telling. In the foretelling, he spoke to the king to warn him of an ambush in the middle of the wilderness. And the ambush was overtaken because they were ready. This led to the king asking who was the traitor that spilled the beans about the ambush on the king of Israel. Which lead to the testimony of 2 Kings 6:12.
“One of his servants said, “No one, my Lord the king. Elisha, the prophet in Israel, tells the king of Israel even the words you speak in your bedroom.”

In the very next story, the king of the ambush sent his military detachment to Dothan to capture Elisha. Where Elisha blinded the whole army and lead them to Samaria as prisoners of war to the king of Israel.
In the first story, Elisha predicted what was happening in the ambush. And in the second story, he was able to stop the king of the ambush from raiding Israel again.
So we have to give an account to God of what we have done, we have to also be accountable for what God tells us to tell others to turn them from the errors of their ways.
“A good man produces good things from his storeroom of good, and an evil man produces evil things from his storeroom of evil. I tell you that on the day of judgment people will have to account for every careless word they speak. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”
