A prepared owner and a water man
A prepared owner and a water man
Once again Jesus sent two disciples into Jerusalem to prepare for Him. The other time was on Palm Sunday. But today is Thursday and they are to make preparations for the Last Supper but they thought it was just a normal Passover. When they step into Jerusalem they get greeted by a man who is carrying a water jug. To us, this may sound normal but in their day it was the lady’s job. Not only does this man carry a water jug but he also greets the disciples. Once again this contrasts with today. Most people would not greet a stranger in the streets while they are working.
The disciples follow the water man into the house where he is presumably a servant and ask the owner of the house about making preparations for the Passover meal. The owner of the house takes them to The Upper Room and they find a table set with 13 plate settings ready for Jesus and His 12 disciples. He was listening to God. God moved in the heart of the owner to get the upper room ready for 13 people and he did.
I wonder if this is the same house as the donkey’s colt and Jesus sent the same two disciples. We will never know but it could be a possibility. They were found useable by God and less than a week later God was able to use them again. The disciples had heard Jesus and found it to be true and now he is sending them back this time they will not be questioning Jesus they know they will find it exactly as He has said.
What is God stirring in our hearts? Will we be obedient time and time again or will we be obedient once and get looked over because of our unfaithfulness to obey Him?
The owner of the house was obedient in preparing for Him and His disciples and for the next 50 days they would be gathering in the same upper room until the day of Pentecost, but their number has grown from 13 to 120
”When they arrived, they went to the room upstairs where they were staying: Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James.“
”When the day of Pentecost had arrived, they were all together in one place.“
