An old man looking for salvation and an old woman looking to serve.


Simeon and Anna were both present when Jesus was eight days old and brought into the temple to be given to God and named. Simeon had been told by the Holy Spirit that he would not die until he saw The Savior. No doubt he knew of people who claimed to be that. But in walks a young girl and her husband with an eight-day-old baby and the Holy Spirit speaks to his heart to tell him this is The Savior.


Anna was a prophetess who had been living as a widow in the temple since her husband died 84 years ago. And she served God with her prayers and fastings. She too came up to Mary and Joseph and began glorifying God for what she heard in her spirit.


We often look to the saints in the church with great respect and hope someday that we too can be like them when we get up in years like they are. But here is their secret. They started when they were young! Look at Anna if she was 18 when she got married then she would have been 25 when he died. She moved out of her home and started serving God in the temple for the next 84 years till she was 109. Most of us will not be serving God for 84 years if we continue in the age we live now. But come a time people will live as long as trees and then we will live to serve God our whole life. 


”In her, a nursing infant will no longer live only a few days, or an old man not live out his days. Indeed, the youth will die at a hundred years, and the one who misses a hundred years will be cursed. People will build houses and live in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit. They will not build and others live in them; they will not plant and others eat. For My people’s lives will be like the lifetime of a tree. My chosen ones will fully enjoy the work of their hands.“

But now is our time to start serving God so that when we become an elder in the church we would have served the Lord with our lives. We must start looking for salvation and looking to serve

​ The women with the issue of blood Soon after I was married our pastor’s wife gave a message called “The Hem of Him” and this woman was the main subject of her message. She talked about how she had to press through the crowd to get to Jesus. She talked about how she was unclean and should not be in the crowd. Then she related it to us that we have to press through all the doubts, internal and external, to get to Jesus. Most certainly we all have heard a message of this woman.  Did you pick up that she had an issue with bleeding for 12 years? Jairus’ daughter was 12 years old. Of course, neither the women nor Jairus knew this but Jesus did. And was willing to help both the synagogue ruler and this poor woman the same. The Word of God is #1 living!

​ I want to take the next 4 to 6 posts in BQTT to dwell on what “the word of God is”. The Word of God is #1 living! In our hands, we do not hold some dusty old relic of some 35 to 40 authors. But a living book written by God through the hands of many different people over 1,000’s of years. Have you ever been reading a normal book and a few words jump off the page to say, “Hey, read me again.”? I bet there have been very few times this has happened, but now, how often have the words written in the Bible done that for you? If you spend any amount of time reading the Bible I would say it has happened more than the normal literature.  Last night I was lying down and a verse reference popped into my head. I did not immediately know the words of this verse but had to look it up.  The verse was, “Who makes a god or casts a metal image for no profit?” ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭44‬:‭10‬ ‭HCSB ‬‬ This is another aspect of the Bible being alive.
