Lord Lord
We don’t like the term Lord because it denotes someone who is over or in charge of someone else. But that is what Jesus is! He is not just a good friend but he is a boss and slave owner. Before you get all defensive over a slave owner let me clarify that He like many slave owners loved and cared for their slaves. And that there were a few slave owners who mistreated their slaves but not all of them. Today our slave owners are called bosses and supervisors. Following Jesus equals obeying Jesus. And those who learn who Jesus is will want to obey Him!
We often associate two names with Jesus, Savior and Lord. Savior is what He did on Calvery, and what he did in the grave those three days. For first, he saved us from our sins. Then, he saved us from death, hell, and the grave! Now this gives Him the power to be Lord over all creation. For even though He created it, power over it was given to Adam in the garden. But then Adam gave it up to the devil. And Jesus is working on restoring it to the sons of Adam, that is you and me. But He is looking for faithful people who will obey Him in the little details today so that when He comes in power He will reward us with more responsibilities.
”The one who is victorious and keeps My works to the end: I will give him authority over the nations — and he will shepherd, them with an iron scepter; he will shatter them like pottery, — just as I have received this from My Father.“
Revelation 2:26-27 HCSB
The Greek word for “works” is ergon has a business definition. So “those who keep my business working to the end: I will give him Authority over others to keep My business working in the age to come. Are we working with our talents and knowledge to keep His business running? We use our talents and knowledge to keep our jobs running so that way we get a paycheck. We use our talents and knowledge to grow our hobbies. But how much do we invest into our talents and knowledge to help grow his business?
”And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?”
Jesus knew His role at the age of 12. Do you know your? Do I know mine? Probably not specifically but in actuality, it is to be about God’s business!
Check out my blog post on Hebrews 2:9 for a specific look into the business God wants us to be about.
