The Words Others Say After Jesus.
The Words Others Say After Jesus.
Last time in BQTT we talked about how Jesus did his miracles in different ways. Today in Luke I see different ways in which Jesus has the recipients of his miracles tell others. In our focus verse, Jesus tells the demonic to go home and tell them what God has done! But later in verse 47, the lady had to confess all that God had done on the spot.
”When the woman saw that she was discovered, she came trembling and fell down before Him. In the presence of all the people, she declared the reason she had touched Him and how she was instantly cured.“

There are times in the records of Jesus' life when He tells them to tell nobody. Verse 56 is one occasion, even though there was a crowd outside who knew that she had died.
”Her parents were astounded, but He instructed them to tell no one what had happened.“

As we mentioned in “The Seven Acts and Teachings of Jesus.” Jesus had people go show themselves to the priests and offer what Moses commanded for their healing. At one point He told three of His disciples to stay quiet until he was raised from the dead.
”As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, “Don’t tell anyone about the vision until the Son of Man is raised from the dead.”
So why the varying responses from people who were touched by Jesus? First, for those who were told to be quiet, it was not time for Jesus to be known by the world. Once they began to talk Jesus was limited in his effectiveness and had to stay in the countryside and out of the city. For those who were in the nations outside of Israel, it was to begin to have the hearts of the people to welcome Him back. For those who were sent back to the priest, it was because He had not fulfilled the old covenant and they still had to obey the old covenant, and then the priests could not argue that Jesus was breaking any of the laws of Moses.
So what about you and me? Will we keep quiet about what Jesus has done? Will we go home to the people who know us and tell them? Will we stand up in the crowd and declare what Jesus has done for us? I hope we choose the last two! But all too often we choose the first one.
”They conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they did not love their lives in the face of death.“
Revelation 12:11 HCSB
” I consider myself fortunate, King Agrippa, that today I am going to make a defense before you about everything I am accused of by the Jews, especially since you are an expert in all the Jewish customs and controversies. Therefore I beg you to listen to me patiently.“
