How Do You Pray?

”He also said in His teaching, “Beware of the scribes, who want to go around in long robes, and who want greetings in the marketplaces, the front seats in the synagogues, and the places of honor at banquets. They devour widows’ houses and say long prayers just for show. These will receive harsher punishment.”“

‭‭Mark‬ ‭12‬:‭38‬-‭40‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

”Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You devour widows’ houses and make long prayers just for show. This is why you will receive a harsher punishment.“

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭23‬:‭14‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

”Whenever you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites, because they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by people. I assure you: They’ve got their reward! But when you pray, go into your private room, shut your door, and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. When you pray, don’t babble like the idolaters, since they imagine they’ll be heard for their many words. Don’t be like them, because your Father knows the things you need before you ask Him.“

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭5‬-‭8‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

How do you pray? I will be the first to admit I do not have a prayer list and take 10 min to pray for each person on my list. I am probably the worst when it comes to taking time to pray. But what about you? I would guess most people would feel the same way I do. God does not need us to pray long prayers. God does not want us to repeat the same chant over and over again. He wants us to freely speak to Him as we would a friend or a parent. He wants us to ask for good things and He wants to give it to us! If your prayers are short then make them meaningful. If they are long make them meaningful. Approach God in humility and boldness!

”Therefore let us approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us at the proper time.“

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭4‬:‭16‬ ‭HCSB‬‬
