Assurance of Salvation

Assurance of Salvation

“I have written these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.”

‭‭1 John‬ ‭5‬:‭13‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

How could John be so certain?

“I assure you: Anyone who hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not come under judgment but has passed from death to life.”

‭‭John‬ ‭5‬:‭24‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

He heard it from Jesus.

Do we believe in the name of The Son of God? Do we believe Him who sent Jesus? Then here His word, “You have eternal life!”

If not then why not? We have been reading through the Bridge to Salvation or the Romans Road. So have you taken a trip down the Roman road and found eternal life in Jesus

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭3‬:‭23‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

For all have sinned. There is no one who has ever walked this earth and been sinless.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭6‬:‭23‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

After the first sin, we are declared guilty of sin and are to pay the penalty of death, more than the physical death, but an eternity without God. But Jesus never sinned, so he did not deserve death and cannot spend eternity away from God.

“But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us!”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭5‬:‭8‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Thank God we don’t have to come to God clean. He does that later.

“If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭10‬:‭9‬-‭10‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Salvation comes from the mouth and the heart. What comes out of our mouths gives praise to two people, God or Satan. Which one do you praise?

What is the difference between eternal life and salvation?

Old Testament

Eternal life = living forever

Salvation = deliverance, salvation, rescue, safety, welfare, prosperity, and victory

New Testament

Eternal life = life with no beginning or end

Salvation = deliverance, preservation, and safety

So while we try to make these two the same thing they are not. Eternal life is experienced in two ways, now and later. We can live with eternal life now knowing that we have eternal life later with God. And salvation is three-fold; past, present, and future. We were saved by Jesus’ death. We are being saved every day. And we will be saved on the last day. Do we walk out our days full of eternal life knowing we are being saved each and every day?!

John had the boldness because he heard it from Jesus. Have you had Jesus tell you He loves you? Then you can too live in that boldness like John!
