His Peace

His peace

“You will keep the mind that is dependent on You in perfect peace, for it is trusting in You.”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭26‬:‭3‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

“casting all your care on Him, because He cares about you.”

‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭5‬:‭7‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Which peace are we living in?

The first peace is the world’s peace. It is world peace that beauty pageant contests promote. There has only been world peace for 7 days since creation, day 1 through 7. After that, the Devil has been influencing division between people, so no more world peace. But there is a day, or should I say years, when the devil is out of the way and we and all the world will have world peace.

Or

Are we living in the Shalom peace that only God brings? This peace is person-specific. Have you ever seen a person who you know is in some major situations but they are cool as a cucumber all the time? Sure everyone can put on a peaceful face for a few hours but when they get alone they fall apart. But for the person who is living in the Shalom peace of God, they are calm even when they are alone.

Maybe we ought to try something. When we enter a room, any room, situation, or atmosphere, we ought to speak Shalom out loud. Back to Isaiah, “perfect peace” is written as “Shalom Shalom”. When Paul opens and closes most of his letters to the churches he says “Grace and peace”. Being a Greek writer he uses “Eirene” the Greek equivalent of the Hebrew “Shalom”.

There is another Greek word for peace “Siópaó“, which means to be silent. When we walk into a non-Shalom environment and Shalom is not calming it down, let us keep Siopao in mind and not add to the confusion.

In a few verses, Peter offers this word of encouragement.

“Now the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ Jesus, will personally restore, establish, strengthen, and support you after you have suffered a little.”

‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭5‬:‭10‬ ‭HCSB‬‬
