His Provision
Will God actually grant us everything? Can we have a name it and claim it attitude toward God and our needs?
“This is why I tell you: Don’t worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the sky: They don’t sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth more than they? Can any of you add a single cubit to his height by worrying? And why do you worry about clothes? Learn how the wildflowers of the field grow: they don’t labor or spin thread. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was adorned like one of these! If that’s how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and thrown into the furnace tomorrow, won’t He do much more for you — you of little faith? So don’t worry, saying, ‘What will we eat? ’ or ‘What will we drink? ’ or ‘What will we wear? ’ For the idolaters eagerly seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you. Therefore don’t worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
Matthew 6:25-34 HCSB
To our needs? Yes! To our every heart's desire? No!
“The heart is more deceitful than anything else, and incurable — who can understand it? I, Yahweh, examine the mind, I test the heart to give to each according to his way, according to what his actions deserve.”
Jeremiah 17:9-10 HCSB
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Where our treasure is there our heart will follow. If we seek God as our treasure our hearts will long for Him and His will. And then He will give us what we desire for it will line up with His will.
“You desire and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. You do not have because you do not ask. You ask and don’t receive because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your evil desires.”
God will provide the needs to sustain life, but God does not have to supply wants. He will supply wants to drive us closer to Him through failure and defeat or because He is truly our Lord and we will use them for His glory!
Most of us will have our needs filled through normal means. We have a job that supplies us with money to pay for the house we live in. It will provide the money needed to buy the food we need to eat till our next payday. Most of us will have running water in our house so we can drink. Most of us have friends and family that love us. God does not have to be concerned with our needs because He has provided us with a prosperous nation to supply us with the money to sustain our needs and some of our wants.
Are our wants drawing you closer to Him so that He can supply you with everything along with Jesus?
