His Spirit
The first resource in the TMS (Topical Memory System) in God’s resources is His Spirit.
When we get saved and inherit eternal life, God exchanges our spirit for the Holy Spirit.
“Now we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who comes from God, so that we may understand what has been freely given to us by God.”
1 Corinthians 2:12 HCSB
“Don’t you yourselves know that you are God’s sanctuary and that the Spirit of God lives in you?”
1 Corinthians 3:16 HCSB
As a three-part person (body, soul, and spirit) we become one-third sanctified. Our spirit is automatically replaced by His Spirit but we have to work to maintain a healthy relationship with God so that we may continually sanctify our soul and body. This does come by works of righteousness. Salvation does not come by work, but righteousness does! By our actions, we prove who is our Lord and Master.
“Why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and don’t do the things I say?”
“You took off your former way of life, the old self that is corrupted by deceitful desires; you are being renewed in the spirit of your minds; you put on the new self, the one created according to God’s likeness in righteousness and purity of the truth. Since you put away lying, Speak the truth, each one to his neighbor, because we are members of one another. Be angry and do not sin. Don’t let the sun go down on your anger, and don’t give the Devil an opportunity. The thief must no longer steal. Instead, he must do honest work with his own hands, so that he has something to share with anyone in need. No foul language is to come from your mouth, but only what is good for building up someone in need, so that it gives grace to those who hear. And don’t grieve God’s Holy Spirit. You were sealed by Him for the day of redemption. All bitterness, anger and wrath, shouting and slander must be removed from you, along with all malice. And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”
Ephesians 4:22-32 HCSB
The Spirit comes to us to renew us into a new creation and we must continually do so.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away, and look, new things have come.”
2 Corinthians 5:17 HCSB
“Therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.”
Romans 12:1-2 HCSB
