Sin’s penalty
Sin’s penalty
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
“And just as it is appointed for people to die once — and after this, judgment —”
We talked in the last BQTT that “all have sinned.” But what does that mean for us? The penalty for sin is death. When those first people ate of the tree it awakened a death gene in them and all their children. There is nothing we can do to escape it. In the days of Noah God shortened the time allowed for a life sentence from 900 years to 120 with the average to be 70-80. God would slowly roll this out limiting one generation to experience 100 fewer years.
“And the Lord said, “My Spirit will not remain with mankind forever, because they are corrupt. Their days will be 120 years.”
“Our lives last seventy years or, if we are strong, eighty years. Even the best of them are struggle and sorrow; indeed, they pass quickly and we fly away.”
But there is a day coming that God has declared that we will live as long as trees.
“In her, a nursing infant will no longer live only a few days, or an old man not live out his days. Indeed, the youth will die at a hundred years, and the one who misses a hundred years will be cursed. People will build houses and live in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit. They will not build and others live in them; they will not plant and others eat. For My people’s lives will be like the lifetime of a tree. My chosen ones will fully enjoy the work of their hands.”
Isaiah 65:20-22 HCSB
But in the end, we must die. For we have sinned. But remember Jesus died for our sins so we don’t have to face the second death.
“Then the sea gave up its dead, and Death and Hades gave up their dead; all were judged according to their works. Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And anyone not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.”
Revelation 20:13-15 HCSB
This second death is meant for only Death and Hades. Where they will join the devil and his angels in the lake of fire. And all those who are four in the book of life will be able to live out eternity with God in the new Jerusalem.
“But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us!”
“If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation.”
